Erin’s Campaign for Kids Nursing Awards’ Applications are Now Open

If you’re a pediatric nurse, sepsis coordinator or nursing student dedicated to improving outcomes among sepsis patients apply today!

SAN DIEGO, Calif., May 2, 2018 – Sepsis Alliance is happy to announce that applications are now open for Erin’s Campaign for Kids Nursing Awards. These awards were created in honor of Erin Kay Flatley, an aspiring teacher who tragically and suddenly died of sepsis when she was only 23 years old. Erin’s Campaign for Kids Nursing Awards recognize pediatric nurses, sepsis coordinators and nursing students who demonstrate excellence in their work and a commitment to improving outcomes among sepsis patients.

Awards are granted in the following four categories:

  • Pediatric Nurse 2 Awards
    • Award winners will be recognized at Sepsis Alliance’s annual Sepsis Heroes Gala in New York City and will receive a $2,500 grant. The award includes a domestic round-trip flight for one to New York and back, as well as a one-night hotel stay in the city.
  • International Pediatric Nurse
    • The award winner will receive a $1,000 grant and an official certificate of acknowledgment.
  • Sepsis Coordinator
    • The award winner will be recognized at Sepsis Alliance’s annual Sepsis Heroes Gala in New York City and will receive a $2,500 grant. The award includes a domestic round-trip flight for one to New York and back, as well as a one-night hotel stay in the city.
  • Nursing Student2 Awards
    • Award winners will receive a $1,000 grant and an official certificate of acknowledgment.

2017 awardees in the category of Pediatric Nurse were Beth Wathen, MSN PNP, from Children’s Hospital Colorado and Wendi Redfern, MSN, of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Mahmuda Aktar, BScN, from Bangladesh won our 2017 International Pediatric Nurse award.

We encourage all pediatric nurses, sepsis coordinators and nursing students committed to improving outcomes among sepsis patients to apply.  The deadline to apply is May 31st and the winner will be announced in August.
