Meet Katherine Rucker
2018 Erin’s Campaign for Kids Nursing Award Winner in the category of Nursing Student
This year, the Erin’s Campaign for Kids Nursing Awards recognized two nursing students. One award was given to Katherine Rucker, an RN who is completing her MSN in Healthcare Administration at MidAmerica Nazarene University, in Olathe, Kansas.
Katie, as she prefers to be called, returned to school this past June. “My daily work with sepsis compliance at Olathe Medical Center and our exceptional sepsis team has given me the opportunity to positively impact the lives of our sepsis population and the community,” Katie said upon learning she had received the reward. “I’ve even earned the nickname Katie Katie the Sepsis Lady.”
Katie hopes to take her current role as Quality and Outcomes Coordinator and expand it. Using the proceeds from the award, she would like to create a community program for sepsis survivors. “There is a need in my community and no resources for it,” she said. “Hopefully this would start up dialogue, support, and further awareness of sepsis.”
