Tina Doyle

Survivor

November 9, 2012, I went in for elective colon surgery. My surgeon let me eat anything I wanted. I was an inpatient for 3 days and 12 hours. After discharge, I was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital for severe chest pain. (Sepsis and Surgery)

The emergency room doctor failed to diagnose my sepsis and did not listen to my husband when he told them I was 3 days post-op. I was admitted to that hospital for 2 1/2 days with no antibiotics. When I was obviously too sick for them to handle I was transferred to a trauma hospital for emergency surgery. I was admitted to the ICU unit after my surgery with a hematoma on my pancreas.

My left lung partially collapsed, and I came very near death. I was given drugs for being psychotic when I was delirious from sepsis. I was put into a drug coma for three weeks. My husband stood by my bedside the entire time because I was misdiagnosed. I have a second chance at life and I’ve been called a miracle. I really do not feel like a miracle, just happy to be alive. I spent 6 weeks in the hospital after that and am facing another surgery. I know I have lasting affects from this, but it is still too early to tell.
