Steve Cook

Survivor

I have a history of kidney stones. I recently had a basket extraction of several large stones. Approximately 7 to 10 days after the surgery I became very ill. My wife is a RN. She immediately noticed that I was showing signs of my body possibly going through sepsis. She was absolutely correct. (Sepsis and Kidney Stones)

She got me to the emergency room, and after labs were taken it was diagnosed that I indeed had an infection that was now in my blood and traveling throughout my body. I ended up staying in the hospital for about a week before being sent home with a picc line in my arm to receive another two weeks of a very powerful antibiotic.

I have never been so sick in all my life. Even though the antibiotics have now been stopped and the picc line removed, I am still experiencing extreme fatigue. I am very thankful that my wife knew what to look for and that she got me the urgent care I needed very quickly. I am a 60-year-old man in otherwise good health. I have never experienced sickness like this in my entire life. I hope to never experience this again. I can truly see how, now after living through this that I might decide to make a trip to the emergency room at the slightest change in my health. Thank you.
