Sherrel Hughes

I drove my wife to the emergency room 5 years ago because of a kidney stone pain. No urine sample could be taken due to blockage. She was told the stone would pass and she was sent home. 1 hour later at home she became delirious and I rushed her back to the hospital. She spent 6 days with sepsis in the ICU. (Sepsis and Kidney Stones, Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections)
Sherrel fought for her life and survived. Fast forward to May 30th 2025. Sherrel is rushed to hospital, incoherent, with a UTI. (Her doctor had given her antibiotics but it didn’t cure her). She had seizures. 14 days later she was diagnosed with encephalopathy and discharged. Two weeks pass and again, incoherent, seizures. The EEG show many seizures and she goes back in ICU but this time unconscious with feeding and breathing tubes. 14 days later they must remove the tubes and transfer Sherrel to the hospice wing and 10 days later she past on to the other side. Sherrel and I were married for 54 years and both 77 years old. Until this happened we had never heard of sepsis. We never knew how fast a UTI could escalate to sepsis, rip through your body and kill you in just days. I now want to promote public awareness of sepsis.
