Tribute

On June 1st this year my husband was admitted to hospital as he had an abscess and it had become infected, and oral antibiotics weren’t helping it. He couldn’t pass urine very well and he was in a lot of pain. When we arrived at the hospital and my husband was seen by the doctors, they immediately said he needed surgery as the abscess was very badly infected, so at 9.30 pm he was taken to theatre. When he came back to the ward 3 hours later they explained that it was worse than they thought and they had to remove a lot of tissue, and that he would have to go to theatre again the following day.

I went home at 2 am and when I returned at 10.30, he was getting ready for theatre again so I kissed him and told him I loved him and would see him when he got back. After 4 hours, I asked a nurse what was happening and they told me he was being taken from theatre to CCU as he had heart problems and needed special care. When I got to CCU my husband was on a ventilator and in isolation, and we were told he had necrotizing fasciitus and they had taken away a lot more flesh. (Sepsis and Necrotizing Fasciitis) To say we were devastated is an understatement as we thought he would be in and out within 24 hours.

On the Saturday we sat beside his bed and the doors to his cubicle were opened as he wasn’t a risk to anyone else. On the Sunday morning they took him back to theatre for more debridement and we were told it is a matter of waiting to see how things settled and if he would need more surgery. Unfortunately his heart couldn’t take anymore and he passed away from sepsis on the 4th June and my life will never be the same as he was the love of my life for 34 years.
