Myra Chattin
Survivor

On Mother’s Day, 2013, was rushed to ER. My fever was around 103 and I could not walk. Thank goodness my daughter was with me! I thought it was my arthritis hurting bad. I had an arthritis nodule on my right wrist that had gone septic. (Sepsis and Autoimmune Diseases)

The doctor knew what it was right away. I don’t remember much. I was given a lot of morphine and antibiotics and was in ICU for 5 days. I remember having surgery on my right wrist 2 times but didn’t know where I was. I am very lucky that I didn’t loose my right hand or more.

Unfortunately, this affected my daughter. I am tired all the time and have type 2 diabetes and I did suffer a stroke. My memory was affected also. My whole body has changed. But, I am so thankful I survived! I also remember talking to my dad (passed 1984) while I was out and he kept telling me, “It is not your time”. It is still painful yet. I was taking Enbrel at the time and my RA doctor said it caused the sepsis. (Sepsis and Impaired Immune System) I sure look at life differently now! My sisters don’t like to talk about it.
