Mike Wilson

Tribute

Mike’s family was unaware how serious and deadly sepsis can become until he developed the disease last fall. Michael Wilson is another incredible individual that lost his battle with sepsis way too young at the age of 35.

After suffering what seemed to be a terrible cold for a few days, Mike returned from work and told his wife, Stephanie: “I am in trouble” and “I am in a lot of pain and can’t breath.” The following morning she took him to Urgent Care where an ambulance was immediately called to transport him to the ER due to an extremely elevated heart rate, incredibly low blood pressure and extreme pain.

The ER diagnosed Mike with pneumonia and attempted to resolve this with antibiotics, fluids and eventually intubation. (Sepsis and Pneumonia) Later that day, he was transferred to the ICU and it was determined he had sepsis, where treatment was then initiated for this disease. This included broad spectrum antibiotics to fight the pneumonia, fluids, maximum oxygen and pressers in an attempt to increase his blood pressure. Another 24 hours later, Mike slipped into a coma and was suffering from organ failure due to septic shock.

Michael Wilson, 35, passed away on October 3rd, 2015 of heart and renal failure due to septic shock resulting from severe pneumonia.

He was a healthy, successful, 35-year-old man whose life was taken by this disease that is so difficult to recover from.

Please continue to spread the word and make everyone aware the warning signs that are associated with sepsis and septic shock.

Mike is survived and continues to be loved by his widow- Stephanie Buerkel Wilson, mother- Patricia Wilson, brothers- Matt and James Wilson and dog- Dagnie.
