Marilyn Lund

Survivor

I have been an RN for almost 40 yrs. I had a kidney stone larger than 5mm in November, 2008. (Sepsis and Kidney Stones) After removal, stents were placed. I began having chronic abdominal pain on the same side as the stone. I went back to my urologist several times. He said “there is nothing else wrong with you. Go home and take your pain meds.” By the time I finally couldn’t take the pain anymore, I went to urgent care.

My skin was gray and my breathing pattern was the same as someone actively dying. I was on a ventilator and in a drug-induced coma for 3 weeks. My kidneys and liver failed. They miraculously began working again. All my toes had to be amputated and my left hip has been replaced twice.  (Sepsis and Amputations) I have no balance since all this happened and only saw the urologist once. He came by my room and barely stuck his head in the door. I have been disabled since this happened. I was in the hospital, including rehab for 3 months.
