Maria Papalia-Meier

Survivor

I went septic on June 18,2014 from a strep infection that went untreated.  Prior to getting sick I was a healthy almost 40 year old mom of 2.  I was an active runner, running about 20+ miles in a weeks time.
I had signs of strep but didn’t know it.   Looking back on it there were signs:

-rash on my stomach
-brown urine
-headaches
-upset stomach

I laid in bed for three days thinking I had the flu before I went to the doctor. When my husband brought me to the doctor, I could barely walk, my oxygen level and blood pressure were very low.

I didn’t have a sore throat until I went to the doctor on the third day.  They did a swap and the rapid strep test came back immediately amaria-papalia-meier-1s positive. (Sepsis and Strep Throat) I was admitted into the hospital and was “asleep” in the ICU for 2 1/2 weeks. Total time spent between the hospital and rehab was a little over 7 weeks.

I have had my toes amputated as a result of some of the meds I was given when my organs failed but I am doing well. (Sepsis and Amputations) Every day is a blessing.  My husband and I are more than happy to share whatever information we have that maybe able to help others.  We are very blessed.maria-papalia-meier-kids
