Leslie Hogeboom

Survivor

End of October I had to get a colostomy that was pretty hard to deal with at first. Fast forward to a week before Thanksgiving had to go back into hospital for a hernia repair and prolapse (intestine came out of stomach). Basically since day after Thanksgiving until 3 weeks ago I don’t remember much. (Sepsis and Surgery)

I ended up with sepsis and basically went crazy. Sepsis set off a massive inflammatory reaction in my body and caused me to develop a serious brain problem called toxic metabolic encephalopathy (TME), a type of delirium.

I was in hospital on a ventilator (life support) at this time. I remember in my head at one point I wanted to give up. Then I vividly remember hearing Presley singing a song and I have 6 kids, 7 grandkids and 4 great grandkids I needed to be here for. I woke up that day (well, middle of night). To my surprise, though unable to walk, get up on own, and very weak.

I’m now doing PT at home and trying to get better but know I have a long road ahead of me. I sometimes find myself going into that dark place but then remember I’M ALIVE!

SO TO END THIS LONG MESSAGE I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU!!!!! Thank you for all your prayers and kind thoughts. Thank you for those of you that have fed my poor husband and kids!!! We/I truly appreciate it it. I believe if it wasn’t for prayers and the grace of God, I wouldn’t be here today.

I am now walking on my own and able to use restroom alone which was a huge feat for me. I am still weak with my upper body and have to lift my legs manually, but getting much stronger
