Survivor

I went in for a routine umbilical hernia repair May 6, 2024 at age 39. I remember leaving the hospital that afternoon and that’s it. I was home with husband and our two kids. May 8th my mom said she called me and I was not acting ok. She came over and said I was gray, naked and had difficulty breathing. Ambulance took me to the hospital. (Sepsis and Surgery)

That night my family had to say their goodbyes as the doctors said I wasn’t going to make it. I almost died three times, kidney and lung failure. They put me on a ventilator/coma that night for 7 weeks. They didn’t find out till May 31 that I have 7 spots in my stomach that ruptured and everything was leaking inside. When I woke I had a trach tube, I could only move 1 finger and couldn’t talk. I spent 4 months in hospital, unable to move or get out of bed. I was told I would be in rehab for at least 6 months and thankfully I excelled in relearning how to do life. It’s still a long recovery and many, many new medical issues and right now. 22 medications a day to keep me going.
