Jose Grajal López

My name is Jose Grajal. I’m from Costa Rica, and I’m 30 years old. I am a sepsis survivor. At the age of 28, I developed severe pneumonia complicated by bilateral pneumothoraces and empyema, and I required ECMO therapy for 39 days. (Sepsis and Pneumonia) After extubation, I had a tracheostomy for 63 days and spent 72 days in the ICU, with a total of 82 days in the hospital. I also underwent a thoracotomy on my right lung due to the empyema.

I carry many post-traumatic memories from this experience, but fortunately, I am alive. 🙌🏻
