James Thompson, Jr.

Tribute

My father, James Thompson, Jr., hit his elbow in a car wreck. He didn’t get it checked. A week and a half later he went to the hospital. His arm was hurting and hot to touch. The ER gave him some antibiotics and sent him back home. That was a Tuesday.

A few days later, March 21, 2009, my father was rushed to the ER because he was very lethargic. His arm was swollen. They lanced it open and pumped him full antibiotics. He was doing well.

The next day, Sunday March 22, 2009, his vitals were everywhere… late that night he stopped breathing. They intubated him. A little while later, his heart rate was a dropping. They attempted to put in a pace maker…but it was too late. His heart was too weak. He passed away.

A few days later I received a call from the doctor. He told me that all of my dad’s organs were gone when he was omitted into the hospital…that he was a ticking time bomb. The hit to the elbow caused a fracture. He had a strep infection that made its way into the bone marrow, which is where blood cells are formed. From there the infection made its way threw his body, killing everything. All in two weeks.
