Tribute

My Dad was taken into hospital on 26th June, 2018, with shortness of breath. He was seriously ill with a heart attack, fluid on his lungs and an infection. The hospital gave him antibiotics and drugs for his heart and insulin started to treat newly found diabetes.

My Dad was discharged from the hospital on 8th July 2018 being told that his heart condition would be drug treated and monitored over the next 12 months. No more was said about the infection.

From leaving the hospital my Dad had numerous appointments at his GP surgery where they took blood samples. They started to monitor his kidneys as the function of them was decreasing. My Dad’s health declined drastically after leaving the hospital. He stopped eating, was being sick and very agitated. On Thursday, 26th July, 2018, he was back at the doctors for more blood tests and the doctor suggested my Dad be admitted back to the hospital as he was dehydrated.

My Dad was admitted on 26th July 2018, we were told he just needed fluids and would only be in for a few days. On the morning of the 27th July, 2018, my Dad had been moved to the HDU and we was told he was very poorly with a severe infection which they needed to blast with a high dose of antibiotics. My mum and sister left my Dad at 6pm that evening, at around 9pm my Dad crashed and passed away shortly after. We have never been told face to face by the doctors that it was biliary sepsis that was the cause of death. We found this out when we picked up the medical certificate. My Dad’s death has come a huge shock to all the family and we have a lot of unanswered questions as to why the infection wasn’t picked up earlier .
