Gary Black

Survivor

(Sepsis Alliance note: Gary was honored as a 2013 Sepsis Hero for his work in raising sepsis awareness.)

My husband is a survivor of sepsis. I spent 14 days visiting him every day in the MICU at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh, NC. from July 20, 2009 to August 2nd, 2009. He was then transferred to the 6th floor and a week later to the Rehabilitation unit.

Gary came home on August 20th, with a tube in his gall bladder. He did not regain his strength to go in for gall bladder surgery until October 7th. (Sepsis and Surgery) From August 20 to October 7th, he slept in a recliner in the living room. You can find Gary’s story at www.sepsisawarenesstoday.com He has written a book to promote sepsis awareness:Gyroscope A Survival of Sepsis by Gary Black.
