It was February 17 when I thought I had a UTI. I went to bed to be woken feeling dizzy and sick i knew then something wasn’t right. (Sepsis and Urinary Tract Infections) I rang 111. After that it was a bit of a blur.

I remember a nurse pumping me with fluids, CT scans and seeing my mum. I remember saying that I didn’t think I was going to make it. I nearly didn’t. I was rushed to surgery a kidney stone had blocked my tube. (Sepsis and Kidney Stones) My lung collapsed and my blood pressure was that low, a defibrillator had to be used. A stent was fitted and little did I know that my family has been to say goodbye. The doctors didn’t think I’d make it.

Someone must have been watching over me that day because few hours later, I woke in ICU. I told the nurse I was hungry. That was the start of a long recovery. The doctors say I’m a miracle because I walked out of Blackpool Victoria hospital 7 days later. I have been left with badly scarred kidneys and thinning of the cortex. I’m under nephrology and also have more kidney stones. I now have to catheterize myself twice a day but it’s a small price to pay for my life saved. I’m still not 100% back to myself but I’m much better then I was. My life changed that day. I learnt to not take things for granted and live each day as my last. My 3 girls could have been left without a mum all because of a simple kidney stone causing sepsis shock. I also want to say thanks to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and urology the staff ICU and surgical assessment unit. I’m here because of them.
