Deb S.
One day I found it difficult to wake up and do my normal morning routine. I felt somewhat tired and had a slight headache. I finally roused myself enough to get a cup of coffee, but when I attempted to go into the kitchen, after two steps I came crashing down onto the floor. I assumed I must have tripped. So I get up again and after I took two steps, I feel to the ground again. The most fortunate thing that happened for me was it was my roommate’s day off, so she was here when I fell. After the second time I fell, she called 911.
I told her I did not think it was necessary. The paramedics arrive and take my oxygen level and then they take me to emergency. I had no clue I had pneumonia that had already progressed to sepsis. (Sepsis and Pneumonia) I ended up staying in the hospital for ten days. If I had been home by myself, it would have never occurred to me to call 911. I just did not understand I was ill. I did experience confusion, but did not consider that to be serious. I am lucky to be alive today. My hospital care I received was also very inspiring and I am very appreciative for all the help I received.
