Davina Davis-Norris

Survivor

Two days prior to my daughter graduating from college. I went into septic shock. My son found me unresponsive in my bed, where my body had begun to shut down as I had voided urine and feces.

After calling the paramedics, I was rushed to the hospital in an altered mental state. I was intubated and placed in a medically induced coma. All this is being told to me, as I don’t recall anything after leaving work that day. I wasn’t feeling well and allowed someone else driving my car to the parking lot.

I remained intubated and in a coma from 14 May until 18 May. They brought me out of the coma on 20 May. Doctors say if my son had been another minute coming home, I would have been DOA. I was diagnosed with a UTI, congested heart failure, aspiration pneumonia and severe sepsis. (Sepsis and Urinary Tract InfectionsSepsis and Pneumonia)

Truly a nightmare experience and I still don’t remember what happened, but I do know my mother stated I was so swollen and discolored I did not look like myself. There were tubes and machines everywhere and reminded her of her mother, as my grandmother died from sepsis.

It is a long road to recovery, but I am fortunate and thankful to be alive. While I had a great team of doctors, I also know that the Creator spared me.
