I am 32 years old. My doctor recently prescribed prednisone for a Crohn’s flare-up as well as another drug (immunosuppressant). Five days later I woke up with a sore on my leg. It felt like a bruise, but looked like a rash. I joked with my husband that it was a bed sore. We went through our day (running to kids games, dinner out that night etc). By evening I could barely walk on my leg, it was so painful! After putting the kids to bed I was crying to my husband. I had a low fever, about 100. We thought I’d head to urgent care the next day. (Sepsis and Impaired Immune System)

In the next hour my fever jumped to 102 and I still couldn’t walk. I decided to drive to the ER. Once there I had a fever of 103.8 and everything started to fail. BP dropped quickly, breathing was short, chills, fever etc. Long story short, I ended up in ICU for 3 days and a step-down room for 4 before being released. It’s just been 4 weeks out and I feel great, but my lungs and heart won’t let me get back to normal life yet! (I was running 3 miles 6 days a week before this happened). They still aren’t totally sure what caused the shock, they removed an access that grew a strep B culture. It happened quickly and the infectious disease doc said he had never seen strep b grow so quickly! (Sepsis and Group B Streptococcus) Thanks to God’s grace I am alive. God had everything planned and times throughout the ordeal and I felt complete peace knowing Jesus as my savior. It was scary and I still worry about so much, but I try to remember that God doesn’t want us to live out of fear. Thanks for letting me share!
