I remember it was early September and we had just settled in our new home. I was feeling fine on a Sunday morning. I remember there was a football game coming on at 4pm that I was planning to watch later. About noon I started getting tired so I decided to lay down for a bit. By time 4pm came around, I was feeling sick and weak. I remember vomiting and telling my husband I wasn’t up to watching the game after all.

Later that night I vomited again and got some on me, so I decided to shower and I couldn’t even stand. I remember my husband came in to check on me and I was sitting on the shower floor., He helped me up and helped get me dresses and back to bed. I don’t remember much about that night but I do remember several times going to the bathroom and nothing really coming out but I couldn’t get off the toilet.

The next morning, my husband decided I was going to the hospital, but first he took our kids to school. While he was gone I tried to go to the bathroom again and I remember falling to the floor from the toilet and how weak I was. I dragged myself out to the living room and when my husband came back, my memory was blurry but he said all I kept saying was “someone please help me,” over and over again.

At the hospital they were all over the place. I remember they kept talking to me but I don’t remember much. They transferred me to another hospital and there I was given several IVs and had a bladder bag thing put in. My urine had some blood in it and they had an infection specialist come check me out.

I spent eight days in the hospital and my legs swelled up so much I couldn’t move them. I couldn’t get out of bed or anything. I finally got better but they never figured out what sent me down hill so fast, only that I was definitely had severe sepsis and if I had waited any longer I might not be alive.
