Survivor

On March 13th, I went into labor after being hospitalized for premature rupture of membranes (water broke) at 21wks pregnant. I delivered my angel baby who died shortly after birth. After delivery, I felt sore but figured it was due to the c-section. (Sepsis and Pregnancy & Childbirth)

The next morning, I woke up drenched in sweat. My fever had reached 103 with a high rate of 156. After meds, my fever went down to 101 but my heart continued to race. I was moved to ICU. Scans were done to ensure there were no blood clots from my surgery. MRI and CT scans were completed. I was dehydrated so I received acute kidney injury from the dye of the CT scan. (Sepsis and Kidney Failure)

The infections disease specialist placed me on several IV antibiotics along with a blood transfusion. I was so scared that this was going to be the end. I kept thinking my husband would have just lost a daughter and could possibly lose his wife. I remained in ICU for three days before I was moved to a regular room with a heart monitor. After five more days, I was able to go home to begin my healing and grieving process.

I have completely recovered from the acute kidney injury. I’m slowly getting my strength back. Taking each day little by little
