Celes Mora, Nursing Student Award Winner

Meet Celes Mora

2019 Erin’s Campaign for Kids Nursing Award Winner: Nursing Student Category

The Erin’s Campaign for Kids Nursing Awards recognized two nursing students in 2019. One award was given Celes Mora, who is a student at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Los Angeles, CA.

Celes is currently working towards her Masters of Science in Nursing degree. Having earned a bachelors in Public Health, she is passionate about community health and disease prevention. As a volunteer, Celes runs free healthcare screenings and clinics in underserved communities. It was her personal connection to sepsis that inspired her to pursue a Masters in nursing.

In her application, Celes wrote, “My grandfather, the father-figure in my life, developed sepsis and become deathly ill a couple of years ago. Although he overcame this complication, he had several other healthcare issues ever since. I have been his personal caregiver and it has given me a small glimpse of what it is like to be a nurse and care for a patient.”

When she graduates, Celes plans to work as a pediatric nurse with underserved populations to raise awareness of sepsis and improve the overall health of the community. She wrote, “Working with children will give me the opportunity to not only treat sepsis but also to speak with the parents of my patients about the prevention and management of sepsis.”
