Steve Maupin is the practice leader for Alvarez and Marsal’s Business Consulting’s Healthcare Practice. He focuses on the convergence of high technology and medicine, where he helps clients understand how to apply systems engineering and technology solutions to health care challenges. His most recent engagement is focused on reducing preventable harms and improving patient and family engagement in critical care.
Steve has a strong personal interest in improving the quality of healthcare and how patients and families are engaged in the care delivery process. Having lost a wife to cancer, he has intimate knowledge of the challenges of navigating our complex healthcare ecosystem. In 2008, he donated a kidney to a friend and ended up in the ICU as a result of medical errors. Through this experience he gained a firsthand appreciation for the importance of patient safety. He is a strong advocate for kidney health and kidney donation and is a member and past president of the board of the National Kidney Foundation’s Northern California and the Pacific Northwest chapter.
His industry experience includes leading a $70 million division of a health care staffing company and the chief operations officer of a software company.
Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Maupin served as a Vice President at Hitachi Consulting, where he led the Northern California Business Consulting Practice and National High Technology Practice. Before Hitachi Consulting, Mr. Maupin was a Partner with Andersen Business Consulting, responsible for the Pacific North West Customer and Channel Solutions practice. Mr. Maupin earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Colorado College and a master’s degree in international management from Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management. He is married and has five children.
