Sydne Mead-Smith

Sydne Mead-Smith, MSN, RN, OCN, is the Sepsis Clinical Nurse Specialist at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington School of Nursing and holds a Master of Science in Nursing in Leadership and Management. She has also completed a micro-credential in sepsis, earned her LEAN Six Sigma Greenbelt, and obtained Advanced Evidence-Based Practice certification through the University of Iowa.

Sydne began her nursing career at the University of Washington on an inpatient hematopoietic stem cell and bone marrow transplant unit specializing in acute leukemia. Her diverse and fulfilling career has included collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams in pain service, radiation oncology, pre-anesthesia, and procedural sedation nursing.

Throughout her career, Sydne has remained deeply committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care to oncology patients and their families. In her current role as Sepsis Clinical Nurse Specialist, she leads initiatives focused on early recognition, quality improvement, and system-wide strategies to enhance patient outcomes and advance excellence in sepsis care.
