Janet Mulroy

Janet Mulroy, DNP, MSN, ACNP, CCNS, CCRN, a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner at Threlkeld, Threlkeld & Omer Infectious Disease Associates, in Memphis, Tennessee, celebrates 45 years as a nurse in 2025. She has also been a staff nurse, staff development educator, academic faculty, and clinical nurse specialist. During her first 30 years in nursing and nursing education, she focused on the care of patients with acute and chronic pulmonary disease, ARDS, and sepsis. She transitioned to the field of infectious diseases 15 years ago, often caring for patients with complicated multisystem organ failure, extensive wounds, and chronic infections. A special interest of hers is non-tuberculous mycobacterium, a rare chronic pulmonary infection.
Mulroy has been an active member of the Greater Memphis Area Chapter of American Association of Critical Care (AACN) since 1983 and is a former member of the national AACN Board of Directors from 2021 to 2024. She contributed to setting direction for the nonprofit organization while navigating the pandemic response. Mulroy is the program chairperson for the local chapter and teaches content on pulmonary disease, ARDS, multisystem organ failure, and sepsis for the local certification review courses each year. She also serves on the board of Greater Memphis Area Advanced Practice Nurses (GMAAANP) and is the current treasurer and a member of the program planning committee for the GMAAANP. Mulroy also serves with the Tennessee Nurses Association (TNA), TNA Nominating Committee, and the TNA Education Committee. She is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and serves on the membership and patient /family education committees for SCCM. She serves in a leadership role for advanced practice nursing at Baptist Memorial Healthcare in Memphis, representing the role of the NP in credentialing, scope of practice, and provider engagement. She was the first and only NP elected to serve on the Medical Staff Leadership Council. Additionally, she is a member of Sigma with affiliation in four chapters of Sigma, the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the National Association of Catholic Nurses.
Mulroy’s honors include receiving an AACN Circle of Excellence award, the AACN/AJN Wyeth fellowship, and the TNA Excellence in Clinical Practice award. She received the Clinical Instructor of the Year recognition twice while adjunct faculty for the University of Memphis Loewenberg School of Nursing and the Nursing Faculty Excellence Award while a faculty member at the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. Mulroy was recognized as one of the Excellent 11 as part of the Celebrate Nursing Top 100 nurses in the Memphis community.
Mulroy completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, Nashville, Tennessee; her DNP project focused on improving education and access to care for patients with non-tuberculous mycobacterium. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, with her thesis focused on the needs of family members of patients with long-term ICU stays.
She is also a busy wife, mother, and grandmother. She is a passionate advocate and volunteer in her community, working in a local soup kitchen several days a month and with the local Women’s Exchange.
