Barbara McCormick

Barbara McCormick, DNP, RN, CEN, is an Emeritus Nurse Leader for Jefferson Health East Region, Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing, and Nurse Researcher for Jefferson. A board-certified emergency nurse (CEN), she has more than 30 years of experience in emergency and critical care nursing, patient safety, language access, leadership, and nursing education.

After earning her Associate Degree in Nursing from Atlantic Community College in 1993, Dr. McCormick advanced through a variety of clinical, academic, research, and leadership roles before completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Drexel University in 2019. In 2020, she returned to bedside practice as a resource nurse supporting critical care and emergency department teams while partnering with nursing leadership on workforce development, recruitment, retention, and professional education initiatives.

Dr. McCormick also served in the military from 1995 to 2025, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel after 30 years of service. Her military leadership roles included Chief Nurse for the 166th Medical Group, Delaware Air National Guard, and the 514th Aerospace Medicine Squadron at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. She is an American Heart Association instructor, former President of the New Jersey Emergency Nurses Association and New Jersey State Nurses Association Region Five, and is actively involved in veteran and community organizations.
