San Diego, California – (September 29, 2015) – Sepsis Alliance, the nation’s leading patient advocacy organization promoting sepsis awareness, today announced that Mark Weinstein, has joined its Board of Directors. Mr. Weinstein, was a member of Sepsis Alliance’s founding Board, and a current member of the Advisory Board before rejoining the Board of Directors. “Public service has always been a part of my life,” Mr. Weinstein said. “Serving as a Board Member of SA allows me to greatly amplify the impact that I can have on the public good.”

“We are pleased that Mr. Weinstein has returned to the Board of Directors,” Dr. Jim O’Brien, Sepsis Alliance Medical Director and Board Chair, said. “His experience and counsel is invaluable and has long been appreciated by everyone at the organization.”

Mr. Weinstein explained that he sees Sepsis Alliance strengthening as an organization, “to allow for an aggressive and ongoing campaign to raise awareness about sepsis throughout the various involved communities and the world. One of several long-term goals for me is to take those words, ‘So More Survive,’ and make them meaningful to the general public.”

Sepsis, sometimes called blood poisoning by the general public, is a medical emergency that occurs when the body’s response to infection begins to injure its own tissues and organs. It is estimated that 258,000 people in the U.S. die every year from sepsis, a preventable condition requiring early diagnosis and rapid treatment.
