Sophia Faustini

Survivor

I became very ill on March 15th of 2016. I got tested for strep throat and my test came back negative, so we were given medicine to help me feel better. March 19th, I became unresponsive at my grandparents’ house and woke up three days later in the ICU at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

It took the doctors four to five days to figure out what I had been infected with. After three seizures, nine days in the hospital, countless IVs and shots, days of no walking and then having to relearn to walk, I was finally released after beating sepsis. I spent two weeks after the hospital on an antibiotic pumping through my PIC line. After my antibiotic was done we had a scare with my gallbladder. While in the hospital, my gallbladder began to fail along with many other organs. In May the doctors said that gallbladder and all my other organs were back to normal and healed themselves.
