Tribute

We had the perfect family, 2 happy and healthy young boys, aged 3 and 2. We eagerly were awaiting the arrival of our third child, a daughter who was due March 2015.

Robin was 36 years old. Incredibly fit and healthy. Her labour and Sara’s birth were very normal. NOTHING unusual. However, 24 hours after delivery, my daughter Sara began to show signs she was ill. Within 30 hours she was transferred to a level 3 NICU in Hamilton, Ontario (we are from Milton, Ontario). Around the same time my daughter was transferred to another facility, my wife began to show very serious signs something was wrong. She was very red in the face, frantic, not completely with it. She also became very nauseous. I could see the fear in the nurses eyes when I went to get them.

The nurses from the Mat ward rushed her up to ICU. While in ICU she was intubated. This is the last time she was ever awake. The doctors at our local hospital did what they could, but Robin began to suffer from organ failure. She was transferred to another hospital where she spent 4 days. Robin underwent 3 major surgeries. Six days after the birth of our daughter, the love of my life passed away from massive organ failure.

Early on, but not early enough, she was diagnosed with a Strep A blood infection. Strep devastated her body and in turn our family. (Sepsis and Group A Streptococcus)
