Michael W. M.
Survivor

My 2-year-old son Michael and I were spending the winter in 2002 in Stuart, Florida. He had an ear infection and was on antibiotics. Then he was walking on his toes on one foot. I thought he had a splinter or something in his heel. Nothing there. That night he woke up screaming. We took him to Martin Memorial hospital. It was soon discovered that it wasn’t his foot that was a problem, but his hip on the same side.

After an extraction in the hip, the blood infection was found. He went into surgery to have his hip area cleaned out. Then he was on IV antibiotics for twice a day for 2 weeks as an outpatient. Due to the antibiotics he was on, a real diagnosis couldn’t be confirmed. He had a scrape on his knee from a fall at a public playground. It was worst period in my life, but thank god he has no memory of it. He has a large scar on his hip. I have his scans and x-rays and saved other documentation. The staff at Martin Memorial saved his life.
