Laurie Rosenbaum-Thornton
Survivor

I was hospitalized when I was 6 with the flu and my body went septic. (Sepsis and Influenza) I was in the hospital for 2 weeks, though I don’t remember much of it. Since then (almost 30 years later) I’ve had numerous odd health issues ranging from idiopathic seizures, to liver and adrenal gland lesions, to low thyroid function, and chronic abdominal pain.

I always feel like a hypochondriac trying to explain to doctors all these weird one-off issues … it never occurred to me I should preface those discussions by saying “I survived sepsis as a child”.
