On September 10, 2015, I woke up about midnight not feeling well at all….low backache and soon diarrhea…I took my temp and it was normal. I laid back down. Shortly I had the second bout of diarrhea and noticed blood on my foot and lower leg. I went back to bed but soon had shaking chills. My husband asked if i needed to got to the hospital and I said yes, grabbed a few things and left.

On the way I got sick again, throwing up I was glad I had grabbed a small litter bag. After answering a few questions in the ER, I had to head to the restroom for uncontrollable diarrhea and then passed out leaning against my wonderful husband. The ER doc said SEPSIS, my temp was over 103 and they tried to get a urine sample.

I was admitted and antibiotics and fluids started. I had pseudomonas and strep in my blood. I was hospitalized for 6 days. The CAT scan of my abdomen was normal, no UTI or pneumonia. I had a laser procedure done on my gums about 3 weeks prior and two places removed off my fingers with a med that causes blisters. The final diagnosis was severe gastroenteritis. We don’t know for sure what caused it.

I was on Cipro for an additional week and have recovered nicely, thankfully. I am 66, regularly exercise, work full time, non smoker or drinker, not over weight and no known health issues. The biggest fear is it happening again, so I go to the doc or dentist if something comes up and am thankful God sent me to the ER and the doctor recognized quickly what I had. Thank you for reading.
