Angela Sanders

Survivor

I had surgery April 27th this year. I woke up from a coma on May 29. I couldn’t move or talk. I was told I got sepsis during surgery. Because of this my kidneys shut down to protect themselves, I was also on 24-hour dialysis. I had to get a tracheotomy so I could talk. I was on oxygen.

I was being fed with a feeding tube and my blood pressure had dropped to zero, so they were pumping so many blood pressure meds into my arm that the intravenous infiltrated causing me to have a 3-inch by 6-inch hole in my arm. It was an inch deep.

I was in the ICU for a month after I woke from the coma. I was then moved to a different hospital for rehab to teach me to walk and talk and take care of myself. I was in the rehab for two weeks.

I learned to stand and talk. The trach and feeding tube were removed. I was sent home on oxygen and in a wheel chair. Three weeks ago I got to put my walker away and can now walk on my own. The plastic surgeon has told me that my arm is healing so well I no longer need plastic surgery. The hole is all but gone now. I haven’t used oxygen in a month. Last week I was told that my kidneys had started working 100% and no longer need dialysis.

I am a true survivor…Sepsis almost killed me. I was stronger then it.
